Magic: The Gathering Arena’s fifth anniversary celebration wraps up this week, and with it comes a ton of new announcements and even a special surprise for players later this week. Between the free rewards players have been getting and all the upcoming events coming to the game, there’s a lot to cover in this week’s Arena Announcements.
Celebrating Five Years of Digital Magic
Arena has been celebrating its five-year anniversary for the past few days, with the ultimate prize coming on September 27. While we don’t know what it is quite yet, make sure you sign in to your account this Wednesday to collect whatever surprise Arena will have waiting for you.
2024’s Magic World Champion Journey Starts Now
Magic might have just crowned Jean-Emmanuel Depraz as the World Champion this past weekend at MagicCon: Vegas, but that doesn’t mean you can rest quite yet. The road to next year’s World Championship is about to kick off on September 29 with three events.
Starting this Friday, you can compete in three Wilds of Eldraine events, the first being a Sealed Best-of-Three for a chance to win an invite to Qualifier Weekend. Then there will be the two-day long Qualifier Weekend event, with a Traditional Best-of-Three Sealed event, which gets you to Day Two, another traditional Best-of-Three Sealed event where the winner earns an invite to Arena Championship 5 and the Pro Tour.
The Return of Festivals
Festivals are coming back to Arena this Autumn, with a special Dark Tutelage Alchemy-based festival starting on Thursday, September 28 and running until Monday, October 2. Entry to this event is going to set you back either 2,500 gold or 500 gems, but the rewards are worth it. Each win earns you a new card style for an Adventure card from Wilds of Eldraine, and since it’s an event, you have as many opportunities to earn them as you like. There’s no elimination from the event for losing games.

- 2 Wins: Devouring Sugarmaw Adventure card style
- 3 Wins: Heartflame Duelist Adventure card style
- 4 Wins: Virtue of Persistence Adventure card style

If you’re going to participate, you might want to check in on some of the better Alchemy decks out there, but keep in mind that Fable of the Mirror-Breaker and Grinning Ignus are banned in the event.
