Another Secret Lair Commander deck is coming! Hot on the heels of “From Cute to Brute,” “Angels: They’re Just Like Us but Cooler and with Wings” is an all-Angels, all the time pre-constructed Commander deck that will go on sale on August 10 for $150. The deck has a limited print run, just like “From Cute to Brute,” and will only be available in English.
Don’t miss our coverage of the other announcements made at Gen Con: Pioneer is coming to MTG Arena alongside Pioneer Masters, Jurassic Park, Fallout, Assassin’s Creed, and Final Fantasy are all coming to Magic in the next two years, plus Magic’s 2024 (!), 2025 (!!), and 2026 (!!!) sets were revealed.
Five cards will get new, Secret Lair-exclusive full art (in foil!) by Scott M. Fischer: Bruna, the Fading Light, Gisela, the Broken Blade, Archangel of Thune, Court of Grace, and Commander’s Plate. Fischer also illustrated two new tokens for a 4/4 Angel and 1/1 Spirit.
“Angels: They’re Just Like Us but Cooler and with Wings” will see five additional angel cards get their very first traditional foil reprints: Angel of Finality, Angel of Ruins, Breathkeeper Seraph, Dawnbreak Reclaimer, and Valkyrie Harbinger. I will also include 30 foil Plains with art by Rob Alexander, as well as a foil Arden Angel.
Wait, Arden Angel?
The History of Arden Angel
Indeed, the Sega Dreamcast once had a Magic video game called…Magic: The Gathering, which was exclusively available in Japan in 2001. The game contained 10 unique cards, some of which had an element of randomness, which have never been available outside of the Dreamcast game.
Until now! Yes, Wizards of the Coast is using “Angels: They’re Just Like Us but Cooler and with Wings Deck List” as an opportunity to print one of those Dreamcast-exclusive cards in paper for the very first time.
If Arden Angel is in the graveyard, the Dreamcast version of the card asked the player to choose a number between one and four. The game then randomly generated a number and, if the player’s choice was correct, Arden Angel would be returned to the player’s hand. In order to make that work in paper, Wizards updated the mechanic to have the player choose a number and then roll a four-sided die to determine if Arden Angel would return to their hand.

The only foil cards in the deck are the five cards with new art, the five cards being reprinted in foil for the first time, Arden Angel, and the 30 Plains. All other cards are non-foil.
