There’s a whole new way to play Magic with this week’s Midweek Magic event for players to explore. This week, players will have to build a deck using only cards from the past three narratively-connected sets: Dominaria United, The Brothers’ War, and Phyrexia: All Will Be One. Your usual decks might not work the way you’re used to with a limited card pool.
Every week there’s a Midweek Magic event, but the rules are a little different every time. These events gives players the chance to earn up to three prizes, two in the form of Rare Individual Card Rewards, and one as a Mystery Cosmetic item. The Mystery Cosmetic item can range from a common drop, like a card style, up to a very rare drop like a pet or avatar. With card styles being the most common, expect to open those more than anything else.
If you’re looking to join this week’s Midweek Magic event, you have to sign up through the Magic: The Gathering Arena app or game client. This event, like all Midweek Magic events, is free to join.
Keep in mind that Midweek Magic events have updated their starting time recently, now starting on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. PT and lasting until Thursdays at 2 p.m. PT.
On The Edge Rules
The rules for On The Edge are the same as a traditional Standard game, though you have a limited pool of cards to build a deck from. Your deck must be at least 60 cards and, since it’s a Best-of-1 format, you don’t have to worry too much about a sideboard. You can of course have more than 60 cards in your deck, but generally speaking, you will want to keep your deck as close to that 60-card minimum as you can.
The biggest rule you need to follow with On The Edge is that your deck must consist of cards from only the sets Dominaria United, The Brothers’ War, and Phyrexia: All Will Be One.
Perhaps one of the best decks to bring to this event might be Selesnya Aggro, a deck consisting of mostly Phyrexia: All Will Be One cards, relying on the powerful toxic mechanic to out-aggro your opponents or whittle them away with poison counters.
