Wizards of the Coast announced today that Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath will be banned in Pioneer, Modern, and Historic in an upcoming Banned and Restricted announcement. They are also considering banning the card in Legacy but have not made that decision yet.
Update (2/15/21): Uro was in fact banned in Pioneer, Modern, and Historic, and remains legal in Legacy.
The revelation came as a side note in an article announcing the latest Secret Lair Super Drop, tucked in among the details about the Showcase: Kaldheim – Part 1 drop. That drop includes a new version of Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath in the new showcase frame from Kaldheim, alongside similarly-styled versions of Frost Titan and Primeval Titan.
“We are planning an upcoming B&R announcement,” Wizards wrote. “In that announcement, we plan to ban Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath in Pioneer, Modern, and Historic. Additionally, we are continuing discussions about doing the same in Legacy.”
Wizards was unable to finalize the Banned and Restricted updated before the new Secret Lair Super Drop announcement but they “wanted to share this information ahead of this sale.”
Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath has been one of the defining cards of every Magic format since its release a year ago in the Theros: Beyond Death expansion. It was a staple in the Simic-based ramp decks that resulted in multiple cards, including Uro, getting banned in Standard. But it has existed untouched in Magic’s other formats—until now.
Stay tuned for the upcoming official Banned and Restricted update to find out if Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath will remain legal and Legacy and if any other cards will be joining it on the banned list.
