Wizards of the Coast has banned Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath in Magic: the Gathering’s Pioneer, Modern, and Historic formats. They considered banning the card in Legacy but ultimately decided not to.
Don’t miss our coverage of today’s other news: tons of bans in Modern, Pioneer, Historic, and Legacy, plus the unbanning in Vintage and the change to the cascade mechanic.
The ban was previewed in a note in an article announcing the latest Secret Lair Super Drop last week, tucked in among the details about the Showcase: Kaldheim – Part 1 drop. That drop includes a new version of Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath in the new showcase frame from Kaldheim, alongside similarly-styled versions of Frost Titan and Primeval Titan.
Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath has been one of the defining cards of every Magic format since its release a year ago in the Theros: Beyond Death expansion. It was a staple in the Simic-based ramp decks that resulted in multiple cards, including Uro, getting banned in Standard. It was also the most-played creature in both Pioneer and Modern—as well as the second most-played creature in Historic— and was an auto-include in any fair deck.
But it has existed untouched in Magic’s other formats—until now.
