On today’s investor call, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner revealed that Magic: the Gathering had its “best year ever” in 2020.
Magic’s revenues continued growing throughout the year, despite a 5% year-over-year decrease in revenue from Hasbro’s other Franchise Brands. Hasbro’s overall revenue decreased 8% to $5.47 billion in 2020 when compared to 2019, though its adjusted operating profit increased 15% to $826.7 million.
Both Goldner and CFO Deborah Thomas said multiple times that Hasbro saw increased investment costs at Wizards of the Coast in 2020, and Thomas noted that that Hasbro was expecting returns on those investments in 2021.
Goldner also confirmed that MTG Arena will be available on iOS in the coming months, with a full release still scheduled for 2021.
