After three days of competition, technical difficulties will prevent the fourth and final day of the Mythic Invitational from being broadcast today.
“Today’s broadcast of the 2020 Mythic Invitational will not be moving forward as scheduled,” Wizards of the Coast said. “We are experiencing issues in sending signal from our main show switch out to transmission that are preventing us from broadcasting the show live.” Instead, due to the differences in time zones between the players, all of today’s matches will be played as planned—but off screen—and the recordings will be made available to view at a later date.
The trouble began early this morning when Wizards announced that they were experiencing technical difficulties that would delay the start of the broadcast from 9 AM Pacific to 9:30 AM. A half an hour later, Wizards said that they had isolated the issue and that the broadcast would begin at 10 AM, then at 10 AM they delayed the stream a final time until 12 PM.
But the technical difficulties never subsided and, after 12 PM passed, Wizards decided to cancel the whole broadcast. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment this development may have caused our fans, viewers, and players,” they said.
The State of the Tournament
The 2020 Mythic Invitational was split into four days, the first three of which went relatively smoothly.
On Day 1, 161 players competed in seven rounds of Historic. Those that ended Day 1 with a record of 4-3 or better advanced to Day 2 for another seven rounds of Historic. The Top 8 players where then seeded into a double elimination bracket that would be played out over Days 3 and 4.
The entire upper bracket was played yesterday on Day 3, with Gabriel Nassif defeating Luis Salvatto in the upper finals to advance to today’s Grand Finals. All elimination matches among the other seven players—and the Grand Finals—are scheduled for today’s final day of competition. Unfortunately, none of those matches will be streamed as expected.
