On today’s investor call, Hasbro announced that Magic: the Gathering’s revenues grew more than 30% in 2019, including double-digit growth in tabletop revenues.
Magic saw “very strong growth,” with tabletop growth up “substantially,” said Hasbro chairman and CEO Brian Goldner. Both the number of unique players and events increased in 2019, as well.
MTG Arena also saw “great growth” throughout the year. 1.8 billion games have been played on MTG Arena since the beginning of its Closed Beta in September 2017 and the number of new players grew 72% in 2019. There was 43% growth in streaming viewing hours last year and the average user plays eight hours a week.
Hasbro also revealed that MTG Arena would be released on mobile in 2020, with more information coming later this month at NY Toy Fair.
Hasbro’s overall revenue increased 3% to $4.72 billion, which was “fueled by the first full year of Magic: the Gathering Arena,” according to Hasbro’s 2019 report. Their operating profit increased also to $652.1 million in 2019, 13.8% of revenues.
