This morning, Wizards of the Coast announced that Jessica Estephan and Janne “Savjz” Mikkonen are joining the Magic Pro League.
Jessica Estephan is the first woman and first Australian in the Magic Pro League. She won Grand Prix Sydney in 2018, becoming the first woman to win a Grand Prix, and had the most the most Pro Points of any woman during the 2017-18 Pro Tour season. Estephan was invited to the Mythic Invitational in March and advanced to the Top 16.
Janne “Savjz” Mikkonen is the first player from Finland in the Magic Pro League. He is a former Hearthstone player for Team Liquid with over half a million Twitch followers and has played Magic for over 10 years. Mikkonen was the highest-ranked Challenger at the Mythic Invitational in March, where he finished third, losing to Piotr Glogowski in the loser’s bracket finals.
Mikkonen and Estephan join Autumn Burchett as the newest additions to the Magic Pro League. Burchett won Mythic Championship I Cleveland in February, becoming the first non-binary Pro Tour Champion/Mythic Championship winner. They are also two-time (and the reigning) English national champion as well as the first non-binary member of the Magic Pro League.
