Today on Weekly MTG, Wizards of the Coast revealed Modern Horizons, a set made for Modern that will skip Standard and only be legal in eternal formats like Modern, Legacy, and Vintage. It will release on June 14, 2019, and will have a Draft prerelease on the weekend of June 8-9. Modern Horizons will also be the format for three Grand Prix in June 2019: GP Copenhagen, GP Washington DC, and GP Seattle.
Modern Horizons will include a lot of new cards designed for Modern, some of which were too strong to ever be included in a Standard-legal set and were thus basically impossible to print for Modern. It will also include reprints, but the reprints will only be of cards that are not currently Modern-legal, some of which are likewise too strong to ever be in Standard. All in all, 249 of the 254 cards in Modern Horizons will be brand new to Modern—with those other five being basic lands.
Wizards previewed two cards from Modern Horizons on stream: Cabal Therapist and a planeswalker for an old character, Serra the Benevolent.
Modern Horizons will not come to MTG Arena, but will come to MTGO on June 13 for $6.99 boosters, which is similar to previous Modern Masters booster prices.
