Season 9 of the Vintage Super League continues today at 9 PM Eastern (GMT -5). We’re running a series of articles to celebrate, like our intro to VSL Season 9 and our rundowns of the Top 5 Decks in Vintage and the Top 10 Cards in Vintage. Plus, we’re running a few VSL fantasy leagues on Thousand Leagues!
1. Force of Will, Mental Misstep, Preordain
48 points, 12 copies each
Look, I tried to warn you when I previewed the Top 10 Cards in Vintage—Force of Will, Mental Misstep, and Preordain are played in 61%, 49%, and 45% of all Vintage decks, respectively. It’s always safe to bet on Blue in Vintage and three of the four decks last week played four copies of each of those cards.
4. Leyline of the Void
42 points, 11 copies
As we noted in our rundown of the Top 5 Decks in Vintage, Dredge is the bogeyman of all eternal formats, including Vintage, and is particularly well-positioned in today’s metagame. Players in Week 1 agreed with that assessment and came prepared with Leyline of the Voids to combat it.
5. Mindbreak Trap
36 points, 6 copies
We rated Paradoxical Outcome storm as the second best deck in Vintage and, again, the players in Week 1 seemed to agree. Mindbreak Trap is one of the most common anti-storm cards you’ll find in Vintage.
6. Chain of Vapor
30 points, 5 copies
Chain of Vapor is an extremely versatile bounce spell that can function as kind of a catch-all backup plan for Blue decks. It is also often seen in Dredge decks, allowing them bounce apposing Leyline of the Voids and combo off.
7, 8, 9, 10. Bazaar of Baghdad, Narcomoeba, Serum Powder, Bridge from Below
24 points, 4 copies each
Truth be told, Bazaar of Baghdad, Narcomoeba, Serum Powder, and Bridge from Below are tied with every other four-of in Rich Shay’s Pitch Dredge deck, which went 2-1 last week.
