Last week, Wizards of the Coast announced a bunch of new products, including Ravnica Allegiance Mythic Edition. The latest Mythic Edition will be available on January 24, 2019 at 3 PM Eastern for $249.99.
If you’re suffering from flashbacks about the disaster that was the Guilds of Ravnica Mythic Edition, I’m right there with you. The release of the very first Mythic Edition was plagued with problems, including a crashing website, reprocessing canceled orders through a temporary Shopify store, and restricting sales to the US and Canada only.
Well, it seems like Wizards and Hasbro have (finally) learned from their multiple failed releases on Hasbro’s Toy Shop site and are moving the Ravnica Allegiance Mythic Edition release to…eBay. They are also offering to ship the product worldwide this time, rather than forcing consumers to buy limited quantities at Grand Prix events.
Here’s to hoping the release of Ravnica Allegiance Mythic Edition goes smoothly.
Challenger Decks Return April 12
Last year, Wizards introduced a product called Challenger Decks, which were intended to be an “on-ramp to Standard.” These decks were huge hits, in no small part because they included plenty of pricey Standard rares at the affordable price point of $29.99.
Wizards announced last week that Challenger Decks are making their return on April 12, 2019 at the same price of $29.99. While we don’t have decklists for the second iteration of Challenger Decks, it’s safe to assume that they’ll be an excellent way for new players to get into Standard.
Wizards Teases “War of the Spark,” Coming Spring 2019
‘The “Coming Soon” page in Wizards’ upcoming products section was updated with little fanfare last Thursday to reveal that Magic’s Spring 2019 expansion will be called War of the Spark. We don’t know much about the set other than it is supposed to be the third expansion in a row set on Ravnica and will serve as a climax to the story of Guilds of Ravnica and Ravnica Allegiance.
Stay tuned to Hipsters as more information becomes available about Magic’s next set!
Alex Bertoncini Banned for Life
After spending years as the face of cheating in Magic, Alex Bertoncini was banned for the third (and final) time last week. The DCI wouldn’t comment on what precipitated the lifetime ban, but Bertoncini’s history of shady actions and sloppy play indicate that the DCI probably had plenty of things to choose from.
