Wizards of the Coast has revealed the deck lists for the upcoming Standard Challenger Decks and they are packed with powerful (and valuable!) cards.
Last December, Wizards announced a new pre-constructed Standard product called Challenger Decks. The decks will contain 75 Standard-legal cards, cost $29.99, and are intended as an on-ramp to Standard. Today’s decklists reveal that there will be four different Challenger Decks to help newer players get into Standard: a mono-Red deck, a Vehicles deck, a UW Approach of the Second Sun deck, and a GB Counters deck.
Many in the Magic Community were concerned that, at a $30 price point, the Challenger Decks wouldn’t actually be powerful enough to compete at Friday Night Magic out of the box. But Wizards didn’t avoid packing the decks with some of Standard’s most powerful and expensive cards. The mono-Red deck, for example, features Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Hazoret the Fervent, both mythic rares that currently cost between $20 and $30 dollars each.
All four Challenger Decks will be available on April 6th, 2018 for $29.99.
