In an unexpected Valentine’s Day edition of Announcement Day, Wizards of the Coast announced a slate of six new products to be released this summer: Magic: the Gathering Portal, Signature Spellbook: Jace, Battlebond, Commander Anthology Volume 2, Commander 2018 Edition, and Global Series: Jiang Yanggu and Mu Yanling.
Magic: the Gathering Portal
Back in 2012, Wizards released a mobile app called Toolbox that it eventually stopped supporting. But Wizards has decided to give it another shot and will release an official app called Magic: the Gathering Portal later this year.
Magic: the Gathering Portal will allow you to create private tournaments and even track your stats over multiple events. It will also give you the ability to look up cards and rules, keep track of life totals, and find news. Portal will include some social features to help you keep up with your Magic friends.
Signature Spellbook: Jace
Signaling a new direction for From the Vault-type products, Wizards announced a new Jace-themed product called Signature Spellbook: Jace. The Spellbooks are built around a particular Planeswalker and their signature spells. Each Spellbook will contain a premium card plus eight other cards that match the Planeswalker’s identity. The first edition of the Signature Spellbook product will feature Jace just after he regained his memories on Ixalan and will be available on June 15th, 2018 for $19.99.
Wizards also confirmed the From the Vault is on hiatus, at least for the near future.
Battlebond
Battlebond is a brand new Two-Headed Giant booster variant that will be released on June 8th, 2018. It is the first set in Magic history to be designed specifically for 2HG play, and, following in the footsteps of its cousins Conspiracy and Unstable, can be played in either Sealed or Draft formats. Battlebond is set on the new plane of Kylem, which is flavored around a sports theme, and will include brand new cards. Each pack of Battlebond will retailer for $3.99.
Commander Anthology Volume 2
Last year, Wizards of the Coast released Commander Anthology, a product that featured four decks from previous Commander releases. Commander Anthology Volume 2 will also contain four previously-released Commander decks with 13 premium Commanders and will be available on June 8th, 2018 for $164.99.
Commander 2018 Edition
In what has become an annual tradition, Wizards will also release Commander (2018 Edition) this summer on August 10th, 2018. Commander 2018 will feature four brand new Commander decks with 12 premium commanders and each deck will cost $39.99.
Global Series: Jiang Yanggu and Mu Yanling
The Planeswalker Decks that are typically released with expansion sets (like Rivals of Ixalan) have traditionally featured alternate versions of the Planeswalkers from that set. However, Wizards has announced that they will release a new non-set specific Planeswalker deck featuring Jiang Yanggu and Mu Yanling, two new Chinese-inspired Planeswalkers. The Chinese version (and its English counterpart) will be released on June 22nd, 2018 for $29.99.
