On today’s Minute: We recap Pro Tour Ixalan’s awesome Top 8.
Pro Tour Ixalan is in the books. After sixteen Swiss rounds in Albuquerque, New Mexico we had a Top 8 mixed with familiar faces and new challengers. Seth Manfield won it all in his fourth career Pro Tour top 8, expertly piloting his Sultai Energy deck past Pascal Maynard’s Blue-White God-Pharaoh’s Gift deck in a close five-game finals. John Rolf on Ramunap Red and Sam Ihlenfeldt on Mardu Vehicles each made the semifinals in their first pro tour top 8, and for Sam it was even his first pro tour appearance! Mike Sigrist, Christian Hauck, Guillaume Matignon, and Piotr Glogowski rounded out the top 8.
Temur and Four-Color Energy were the most popular Standard decks in the pro tour field, and put three copies in the top 8 plus Manfield’s Sultai version. Ramunap Red is still doing well, and an innovative mono-white Monument Vampires deck also made an impression. Maynard’s blue-white gifts and Matginon’s Jeskai Second Sun decks were the most innovative in the top 8, showing that Standard still has plenty of options to play.
