On today’s Minute: There were no changes to the Banned and Restricted List today. Plus, SCG announced the Open schedule for the first half of 2018.

This morning, Wizards of the Coast announced that there are no changes to the Banned and Restricted List. Wizards said that they are currently happy with the diversity of Standard archetypes and that they believe they have successfully navigated past the tumultuous Standard bannings from the first five months of this year.

Wizards also revealed that they have been considering unbanning cards in Modern, but that they believe the current format is healthy and diverse enough to leave alone for now. Wizards stated that there will most likely be no bannings in Modern until after Pro Tour Rivals of Ixalan next February, after which they will reassess the format.

Yesterday, Star City Games released the SCG Open schedule for the first half of 2018. The schedule is highlighted by 8 Modern Opens and only 2 Standard Opens. There will also be a Legacy Open and 3 Team Constructed Opens, in which teams of 3 players will play Standard, Modern, and Legacy decks. In an interesting change, every Open will be accompanied with a Modern Classic on that Sunday, indicating the continuing popularity of the format.
