Dunk of the Week
01:02:00-01:04:00
After narrowly defeating Storm in round one, of course I get paired against it again. This is the third game, I am facing down 18 goblins and am at a one life. On my draw step I have to draw an untapped land and then play Search for Tomorrow/Scapeshift without the opponent having Remand. Fortunately, that’s exactly how things went down and I start off the league 2-0 against a bad matchup.
Punt of the Week
01:37:45
I played much of this game incorrectly but this is notably a terrible move. I decide to crack Relic of Progenitus on my turn rather than wait until my opponent was in combat. If I had waited they wouldn’t have been able to kill me with Tarmogoyfs and I would have had a draw step to draw Farseek, Search for Tomorrow, Wood Elves, or Sakura-Tribe Elder and then Scapeshift them for the kill. I didn’t do that.
Final Record and Closing Thoughts
ROUND ONE – Storm (2-0)
ROUND TWO – Storm (2-1)
ROUND THREE – Affinity (1-2)
ROUND FOUR – Abzan (2-1)
ROUNDS FIVE – Storm (1-2)
Playing against Storm three times is definitely not great, though we were lucky enough to have a positive match win against Baral and his barrage of spells. Given that Storm is definitely oversaturating the online metagame, it makes sense to me to have a few sideboard slots actually dedicated to the match-up. I will plan on fixing this for next week.
As for the changes we made, Prismatic Omen was not often relevant (we didn’t draw it often either) and the jury is out on Hour of Promise as well. I want to run it back and see how these cards perform when we actually get the chance to cast them.
