On today’s Minute: Despite the fact that the set released in 2004, John Avon is finally making the art from his Unhinged lands available for use on playmats!
Yesterday, John Avon launched a Kickstarter to fund the creation of playmats featuring his art from the full-art Unhinged lands. Despite the set being released all the way back in 2004, the art has never officially been licensed for use on playmats—until now.
Avon originally set a very modest goal of $6,000 that was met within 40 minutes of launch and has since raised $60,000 about 24 hours later. You can secure your own playmat featuring any single piece of art from the Unhinged lands for a $32 pledge or order all 5 for $140. You can find the project on Kickstarter by searching for John Avon or use the link in the show notes.
Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until December to get your hands on your official John Avon playmat, so you won’t be able to take it to your Ixalan prerelease this weekend. But after what feels like months of talking about pirates, merfolk, vampires, and dinosaurs—oh my!—you’ll finally be able to play with the set at your local game store this weekend or on Magic Online next week.
