On today’s Minute: Ixalan set reviews are starting to hit the internet, plus Star City Games is changing how they grade cards.
We’ve now entered the calm before the storm as anticipation continues to build for Ixalan’s pre-release events this weekend. Plenty of guides to Ixalan limited have started to hit the internet including the ever-popular set reviews by Luis Scott-Vargas on Channel Fireball.
In other news, Star City Games recently announced changes to how they grade single cards. The changes go into effect tomorrow and will cut the number of grades from four down to three. The slightly played category and the top third of cards from the moderately played category will be replaced by a new grade simply called played, while the bottom two thirds of moderately played category will be absorbed into the heavily played category. Cards graded as near mint will not change.
It remains to be seen if other outlets will follow suit, but given SCG’s role as the driving force in Magic’s secondary market it wouldn’t be surprising to see retailers like TCGPlayer and Channel Fireball fall in line.
