I wish I could say that the title of this week’s post was a reference to me talking about Wasteland decks or something like that, but it’s pretty literal: I was in Key West—you know, actual Margaritaville—for most of the week since my last post, and as of this writing, have not touched a physical or digital Magic card, as that sort of thing is frowned upon during family vacations.

In lieu of traditional material, I’m going to turn to you, the reader, to help guide some of my content in the direction that you’d like to see it go. As some of you might be aware, I’ve become somewhat of an avid Legacy streamer, especially with the addition of the new 7:30pm EST Daily (aka the best Magic-related thing to happen to me since popping my pro-point cherry in Philly). With this new schedule, on some evenings, I’ll even be able to stream TWO Dailies. So where do you come in? I’ve often queried my audience for deck requests in the past, and maybe two or three people will suggest an archetype, and that was it. Then I learned that we have this magical thing called “Polls” that let me easily ask a bunch of you at once and tabulate the results so that I can try to give you guys exactly what you want (or what most of you want). It’s a pretty ingenious idea, so A+ to whoever invented the idea of a poll.

Below is a pretty simple question for all of you to answer, and I pledge to honor the top three results within one of the following Daily Events* (all times in EST): 6/30-11pm; 7/1-7:30 PM, 11 PM; 7/2-7:30 PM, 11 PM; 7/3-7:30 PM, 11 PM.

BURG Delver
This was a popular request on the stream, recently, and a deck that I’d really love to give a go, sometime soon. I don’t have any experience with these lists, but I’m pretty good at blind-flipping Delvers (note to self: add that skill to my resume), and know how to win a tempo game. Here’s a sample list that I might use.

BUG Deedstill
As long as I don’t Wasteland myself or click, “concede match,” instead of, “concede game,” I think we should be ok #insidejokesfromthestream
I’ve toyed with this archetype a few months back, and had some fun with it, but a friend recently shipped me a new list that seems like a more streamlined version of the clunky list that I was trying to make work. I think we can manage a 3-1.

Miracles
Do I need to say anything else about this one? (I actually do, as my primer could use an update, but we’re not doing that, here.) My only aversion to streaming this is that Joe Lossett streams it often, invented the list that I play, and is far more proficient at it than I am, so I try to save this one for when he’s either not on or messing around with something different.

High Tide
I’ve had some success with this archetype in two-man queues, but I got ran over the few times that I brought it into a Daily. Perhaps, playing with the new sideboard technology of Counterbalance, courtesy of Feline Longmore, will give me more game in a four-round event.

BUG Control
I’ve put up a couple 3-1’s with this list, picking it up cold, so I think it had game. I am a big fan of the plan of using Baleful Strix and True-Name Nemesis to protect the power-couple of Jace and Lily. I’ve also been itching to try a friend’s version that adds in ‘goyfs and a couple copies of Daze in an effort to be able to turn the corner on offense, more quickly.

“Big Three” Delver (BUG, RUG, UWR)
I’m just going to group all three of these together, and throw-in Izzet, for good measure. It is an almost certain thing that I will play at least one (but likely more) Daily next week with a Delver deck, so I’ll add another poll for everyone to tell me their favorite flavor of Delver, and hopefully accommodate most of you.

What is Your Favorite "Mainstream" Delver Variant?

  • RUG (31%, 8 Votes)
  • BUG (27%, 7 Votes)
  • UR (27%, 7 Votes)
  • UWR (15%, 4 Votes)

Omnitell (Mono-blue, UR)
This is an archetype that I often play between rounds, due to the fact that it can close out games quickly. The mono-blue version is pretty standard fare, while the UR is based off the build that Max Brown played en route to his SCG Invitational victory, last year. I would consider my skill level with this deck about average, but I feel alright bringing it into a Daily, if the people wish to see it.

Esper Deathblade

I have some experience with a more “traditional” Stoneblade (UW and Esper Blade were among my first Legacy decks), but it seems that Deathblade had all but overtaken the Shamanless version. While I haven’t played a whole lot of Deathblade in the last year, I have a pretty high level of familiarity with all of the cards and many of the packages this deck runs, so I’d feel alright with taking this into a Daily, despite how horrifically greedy the deck is.

Shardless BUG

Something on my Legacy “bucket list” that I have yet to play. I feel like I would enjoy this mix of value creatures, card draw, Planeswalkers, and tier one disruption. Zero experience, here, but I’ve played against it many times, and I have played various other BUG lists, so I am used to playing with almost all of the cards in a typical 75.. well.. aside from the namesake card (Shardless Agent).

UB Tezzy

If we go this route, I’d probably play something close to this list. While I don’t have what I’d consider extensive intimate knowledge of this Legacy archetype, I’ve played this to a couple 3-1s in paper, before. I also have a bit of a soft spot for the Agent of Bolas, as playing Jace and Tezz (along with Venser and Karn) was my favorite thing to do in Standard when I was first getting back into constructed (read: Standard) Magic.

Storm (ANT, TES)

I have zero experience, here, and while it is on the “bucket list,” I don’t think storm variants are well-positioned, at the moment, which makes this a perilous time for novices to pick up the archetype. That said, if the people want to see me stumble through this, I’m willing to give it a go. Besides, Lion’s Eye Diamond is as cheap as it’s ever going to be!

Some Crazy Dack Brew

Now, we’re really going into uncharted territory, but to give you a rough idea of what we’re going to do, it’ll probably look something like this. Or this. Great minds think alike, right? That makes me feel like I wasn’t completely crazy when I was talking about Dack in Legacy. Unlike Caleb, though, I’d like to make Liquimetal Coating happen.

Buy Power and Start Playing Vintage, Idiot!

I’ve played a few games with Suicide Jace and Oath, and the format can be a lot of fun. I am a bit torn on buying MODO power, though, because it would cost quite a bit of money, and a small part of me wants to start trying to acquire Power in paper. For items like this, there is something to be said for owning the physical piece of cardboard, though, at the same time, playing is fun, and MODO would enable me to play sooner and more often. Dilemmas!

Alright, folks, vote away, and if you’re interested in watching me play the archetypes that you voted for, tune into the stream! I’ll try to announce when and what I’m streaming on my twitter (@efil4zaknupome).

*I am not necessarily playing in all seven of these Dailies; results of “other” will not actually be honored on this go-around, but I will add your choice to the poll the next time I do this, provided it is a legitimate choice and I would not have to severely break the bank to play it; Vintage will not be honored within one of these, as you cannot play Vintage in a Legacy Daily.. and I might need more than a week to acquire all the cards 😉
