Despite the fact that I spend a lot of time reading about Standard and some time playtesting the format, the games I play at Pandemonium’s Wednesday Night Standard event make up the bulk of my column’s content. But last Wednesday, it snowed. It snowed a lot. I thought about braving it anyway, lacing up my only pair of winter boots (that I somehow inherited from a Japanese exchange student a decade ago), but the combination of snowy roads and Born of the Gods not being legal until that Friday deterred me. I thought about just writing on the impact of Born of the Gods on Standard, but seemingly everyone in the Magic community was already doing this and I wanted to try something a little different. So I downloaded Camtasia, went over to my friend Rodrigo’s house the next night, and recorded an Invasion Block Draft.
Enjoy!

At age 15, while standing in a record store with his high school bandmates, Shawn Massak made the uncool decision to spend the last of his money on a 7th edition starter deck (the one with foil Thorn Elemental). Since that fateful day 11 years ago, Shawn has decorated rooms of his apartment with MTG posters, cosplayed as Jace, the Mindsculptor at PAX, and competes with LSV for the record of most islands played (lifetime). When he’s not playing Magic, Shawn works as a job coach for people with disabilities, plays guitar in an indie-pop band, and keeps a blog about pro-wrestling.
